Community Cabinet

Community Cabinet meetings are an initiative introduced by the Australian Government in 2008. If a Community Cabinet meeting is scheduled for your area, we would encourage you to consider attending the day and also to seek a pre-arranged meeting with the most relevant Minister to discuss your issues.

The Community Cabinet section of the website of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (http://www.pmc.gov.au/community_cabinet/index.cfm) explains the Community Cabinet meetings as follows:

Community Cabinet meetings are part of the Prime Minister's commitment to ensure close consultation with the Australian people on the things that concern them, whether they are national or local matters.

These meetings give people in the community an opportunity to meet with Cabinet members in person and ask questions directly about issues which are important to them. Community Cabinet meetings will be held at various venues across Australia.

The program for Community Cabinet meetings will usually be as follows:

Arrival and confirmation of registration
Light refreshments will be served.

Public forum
The Prime Minister will address the forum and this will be followed by a question and answer session from the audience.

One-on-one meetings
Ministers will be available for a limited number of pre-arranged one on-one meetings with individuals or groups. Each meeting will be limited to 10 minutes.

Close of session
