SHUT OUT: The Experience of People with Disabilities and their Families in Australia

The National Disability Strategy Consultation Report was released on 5 August, 2009. It was prepared by the National People with Disabilities and Carer Council.

The report presents an accurate picture of the lives and experiences of many people with disability and their families. The report looks at the issues of:

• Social exclusion and discrimination
• Lack of services and support
• The need for a lifetime care and support scheme
• The employment experiences of people with disabilities
• Negotiating the built environment and accessing information
• The education experience of people with disabilities
• The social experience of disability
• The way forward – implications for the development of the National Disability Strategy
