Your Story, Your Ideas

If you have a real-life family story to share, we encourage you to contact us so that we can consider it for publication in our Family Voices Magazine. We like to include a range of stories and experiences.

Your story might provide a 'whole of life' perspective, focus on a particular time or event, focus on a particular issue or theme, be a general story about your family, demonstrate a need for a change to government policy and/or community attitudes, praise professionals and/or government policy that have been helpful and appreciated, or all of the above.

We will consider stories of any length but for publication in our Family Voices Magazine stories will be edited to between one and three pages in length.

As a rough guide to word length, and to help get you started:

  • A one page story and photo is approx 600 words.
  • A two page story and photo is approx 1,200 words.
  • A three page story and two photos is approx 2,000 words.

Photos can be emailed and all hard copies of photos are returned once the story is published. Please remember to include your contact details with your story.

If you'd like to contribute your story to a future edition of Family Voices Magazine, please contact Stephanie Gotlib, Policy & Membership Co-ordinator stephanieg@aafcd.org.au Jane Appleton, our Administration and Membership Officer by email mail@aafcd.org.au

In addition to stories from parents, we'd also love to receive contributions from siblings, grandparents, other extended family and children and young adults with a disability.
